Have a BEEutiful Holiday
So far brainstorming has...not gone too well to say the least. I have all of one idea, and I am not even sure how or if I will be allowed to execute it due to copyrights and what not. My idea is to have a collection of cards with simple, beautiful winter wonderland scenes. To put a spin on it, I would include the UB Bee. I haven't deiced on the exact details, maybe it would be one of the find the bee in the picture type, or I would add the bee to each scene by having him skiing or drinking hot chocolate (that would be pretty hard though I think). I would then include the phrase "Have a BEEutiful Holiday" on the card if I could integrate it in well without looking tacky. Like I said this is just a rough idea. What do you think? If you have any suggestions on how I could make it work, or illustrator tips (I think that would be best with creating the animated bee) feel free to share!
Here is a set of holiday cards I found while searching for inspiration. I think they are adorable and display a similar concept to what I described above. Two creatures participating in various holiday activities, just as my UB Bee would be doing (I think these creatures are much more interesting then the Bee). Simple yet pleasing and entertaining. There are four designs and they come in a set of twelve. Entitled, Squid and Frog Holiday Cards by Amy Winfrey, these cards can be found on her
website. She has created a lot of different designs similar to this ion different mediums, including t-shirts and prints. She even continues this collection with a
Valentines Series.
Hi, Tracy. I too thought of using the UB Bee but wasn't sure if we'd be allowed to given that our professors said they were sorry they told us about the concept. Of course we'd want to cater to the school in someway if we are looking at our audience. I have other ideas I'm leaning more towards (like exploiting my dog), so feel free to take the lead on this one. I hope they let you do it. I love your example! I always want to design things like this but when it comes down to having the drawing skills, I always fall short of what is in my head. Not to mention having the right tools to create textured backgrounds like hers--hard to say if she designed them or used background images. I can only hope my greeting cards look 1/10 as good as these. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Stephanie. I agree, I always feel as though I have these wonderful ideas and I can see so clearly in my head how to create them, but every time, without fail it turns out looking like a five year old created it. I don't understand why the process I have in my head never comes out as I imagine in my head, ha. I am not much of a drawer, and I'm not sure this class gives me the extensive amount of time I would need to tool around with illustrator. I have come up with a few more ideas luckily, my favorite so far is photographing holiday treats yumm. Anyways, I guess we'll get our answers in class soon!
